Empowerment Agenda

Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) has been identified as strategic priority by C&L Developments (PTY) Ltd. Empowering women for gender equity – we contribute to the development of knowledge about how gender relation can be transformed. In particular, we contribute to the development of women and their capacity to change the workplace with their experiences.

C&L Developments (PTY) Ltd is fortunate to have a 30% black woman as a shareholder and director. We also have a 21% black male shareholder and director, with a current black shareholding total of 51%.

C&L Developments believes that future business success and the maintenance of any future enterprise viability will to a large degree depend on the implementation of a successful empowerment programme. C&L Developments sees BEE as a multifaceted and integrated process. In line with a recently published draft government policy, it includes such aspects as human resources development, as well as investment, ownership and control of enterprises and economic assets.

Our Industry Charter initiatives lay the foundation for creating a world-class industry that recruits young qualified people into our team It attempts to change the perception of the industry and seeks to develop interventions that will substantially increase their economic value added potential through best-practice human resource development, skills development and employment equity and gender policies. Stakeholders in the formulation of the charter agree that such policies are not only a political and moral imperative – they are an economic imperative. We see that without targeted programmes to substantially improve skills in the industry, the country will be unable to fulfil the vision of creating a world-class industry.

The industry will be driven by this charter in years to come, but our company is ahead of the game in terms of empowerment planning and enterprise development. We have already developed enterprises in certain sectors of the market to better realize opportunities

C&L Developments strategy is to look at empowerment from a broad based perspective. A substantial amount of expansion and partnering is done through C&L Development’s project execution model; and empowerment initiative for previously disadvantaged companies that brings BEE contractors into a C&L Developments consortium. This format allows technology and management know-how to be transferred to our consortium partners within a close working relationship on our projects.
